At Topcliffe, we seek to ensure that children leave school with a secure academic grounding for their future. However, our priority is not examination grades but the development of curiosity and wonder in learning that will inspire children to realise their full potential.
We incorporate academic work with a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, and we value sporting, character and cultural achievement equally. We are a school with a strong inclusive ethos which expresses itself with children treating each other with respect and courtesy. We have developed a creative curriculum that ensures that all children’s individual learning and social needs are met within a school that believes in fun!
Topcliffe firmly believes that learning should inspire and engage all learners. Therefore, it is essential that the curriculum is delivered in fun and innovative ways.
Our talented and inspiring teachers provide lessons that are creative and motivating, exposing children to experiential learning opportunities . The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all children, regardless of gender, disability or race.
Topcliffe will always endeavour that both teaching and learning embody and challenge independence, resilience and self-reliance so that all children develop the essential skills life long learning.
Topcliffe Primary School has one of the largest resource bases for children diagnosed with Autism (AS) and Specific Language Impairments. Through our holistic, inclusive practice, we empower and challenge our children to realise their full potential, gain greater independence and celebrate their contribution to the wider school community.
Our resource bases incorporate individual child centred learning packages which take into account the specific needs of our children. Our aim is to enable pupils to fulfil their potential and successfully return to full- time mainstream provision. To support this, we promote strong relationships and effective communication with parents and ensure that all children are fully included in all aspects of school life.
We use innovative technologies to develop childrens’ love of learning and provide children with the necessary skills and digital knowledge required for future education, employment and life beyond school.
To support learning, we have created a bespoke curriculum that enables our children to explore the technological world around them. We expose our children to a variety of activities that explore and develop understanding of computer science.
Topcliffe is dedicated to ensuring that all children safely use these technologies and understand the dangers and safe use of the of the wider digital world.
Every child should be given an opportunity to experience the world beyond the classroom and high quality outdoor learning is fundamental to this. Embedded in the school curriculum, it is used to develop self-esteem, confidence, communication, teamwork and listening skills.
Our Outdoor Education Hub enables the us to deliver bespoke, onsite activities that engage, challenge and inspire young people in the outdoor environment. With activities such as: crossing the ‘toxic’ swamp or preparing food around a campfire, we offer learning experiences that help children to develop socially and emotionally.
Our goal is for all children to leave Topcliffe as independent learners with positive memories that they can keep forever.
